I definitely agree with what you wrote but almost feel like its a broken record with this organization. Should we be surprised by any of this? If anything its consistent with how the Wilpons have run the Mets the last few years..at least. Simply put its extremely frustrating.

David has been fantastic. I think part of it was all the pressure of carrying the team last year when virtually everyone was on the DL. I think the pressure has been relieved by teammates like the brilliant Ike Davis - who (while heralded) beat expectations by actually living up to expectations. And Angel Pagan has been outstanding. I liked him last year - he had a lot of potential - but he too has exceeded any expectations.

I just hope that Carlos Beltran fits into this close knit team once he returns. He never really seems to mesh with them, although that might just be his reserved outward personality.

Neither uniform helps the Mets. If they want their team to grow they need to focus on their farm system too.

let the yankees get lee, let them overpay by sending prospects AND then having to resign him, then watch as they lock him up for 5+ years and towards the end falls apart and is nothing near what he is now.

people fail to realize he may be the best pitcher now, but he's also 31 years old and in the 8 years he's been in the league 2 and a half of those years have been good.

remember when the mets got santana, he was "the best lefty in baseball" now he's struggling to get back on track. same thing could easily happen to lee and the yankees.

There is the other hypothetical side to though.

Say the Mets don't make the playoffs this year. And the Yankees do, again, and win the world series, again. And Jenry Mejia goes on to be another also ran hot arm with nothing to show for it.

No matter how it is sliced, if the Yankees come out rosy now and the Mets crappy from this it will be just another dagger in the side of inadequacy to get things done.

Michael - I agree completely and at the same time this post made me a little sad. You picked the perfect picture. At the end of the day, there are far worse problems to have.

Your comparison of Bay to Beltran (first year) is a great one. Like Beltran Bay is not hearing many boo birds because the team is playing well and winning.

I still believe Bay will turn it around, and like you I don't care if Bay hits 10 HR for the season if he is getting "BIG" hits, clutch hits and driving in meaningful runs than he will be worth his pay in my opinion!!!

as always great post and wonderful pic...
